What is Manual Handling?

Manual handling is a description that covers all aspects of manual handling in the workplace.eg lifting, carrying ,pulling, pushing, lowering by bodily force. If you don't to provide adequate training this may result in claims against the company for failure to provide a safe place of work.

How would Manual Handling Training benefit my company?

The advantages of manual handling training are threefold:-

  • compliance with health and safety law
  • employees correctly trained are less likely to injure themselves or others
  • employees that attend the training complete a simple written section that checks their knowledge and comprehension thus making it less likely that a claim will be made against you.

    This training course provides an insight into the risk associated with moving and handling and teaches safer lifting and handling techniques.

    The training course covers the key training points that are required by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 L23.

  • manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur;
  • how to carry out safe manual handling, including good handling technique;
  • appropriate systems of work for the individual's task and environment;
  • use of mechanical aids; and
  • practical work to allow the trainer to identify and put right anything the trainee is not doing safe
  • What are the company duties?

  • avoid the need for hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable;
  • assess the risk of injury from any hazardous manual handling that can’t be avoided;
  • reduce the risk of injury from hazardous manual handling, so far as is reasonably practicable.
  • Who should attend this training course?

  • Employees that are expected to carry out any lifting and carrying during their work tasks

  • What will they learn?

    How to lift and carry safely and how to protect their back from injury.

    Course content:-

    • The law relating to Manual Handling
    • How to recognise awkward or difficult lifts
    • Spinal anatomy, its structure and function
    • How to protect their back from injury
    • Safer lifting techniques and team handling

    Health and Safety UK certificate valid for 3 years

    Approximately 2.5 hours (depending on numbers)
